    What is Domain Rating?

Domain Rating (DR) is an Ahrefs score from 0 to 100 that estimates the strength of a website's backlink profile. It looks at how many unique websites link to a domain and how strong those linking sites are themselves.

A link from a high-DR site that links out to few other sites passes more value than a link from a weak site that links to thousands. Backlinks are the core of off-page SEO.

DR vs DA: which domain authority score matters?

DR comes from Ahrefs. DA (Domain Authority) comes from Moz. Both are third-party estimates of link strength, and neither is used directly by Google.

Pick one and use it consistently to compare yourself with competitors. The trend over time is more useful than any single number.

How to increase your Domain Rating

There are no shortcuts that last. These four steps are what we use for clients every month.

    FAQ

    Domain Rating checker questions

    What is Domain Rating (DR)?

Domain Rating is an Ahrefs metric that shows the strength of a website's backlink profile compared with every other site in the Ahrefs database. It runs from 0 to 100 on a logarithmic scale, so moving from 70 to 80 is much harder than moving from 10 to 20.

Is this Domain Rating checker free?

Yes. You can check the DR of any website and compare up to 10 domains at once for free, with no signup.

What is a good Domain Rating?

It depends on your competitors. A local business does not need DR 70 to rank; it needs a DR close to or above the sites it competes with for its keywords. Compare your site with your top competitors to see where you stand.

What is the difference between DR and DA?

DR (Domain Rating) is made by Ahrefs and DA (Domain Authority) is made by Moz. Both estimate the strength of a site's backlink profile on a 0 to 100 scale, but they use different link data and formulas, so the numbers do not match.

Does Domain Rating affect Google rankings?

Google does not use DR. It is a third-party estimate. But DR is based on backlinks, and quality backlinks are one of the signals Google does use, so a higher DR often goes along with better rankings.

How do I increase my Domain Rating?

Earn links from relevant, trusted websites that already have links of their own. Outreach, digital PR, guest content and genuinely useful resources all help. Every MarketingFlow SEO plan includes high-quality outreach backlinks every month.

How often does Domain Rating update?

Ahrefs recalculates DR continuously as it crawls the web. Results here are cached for up to 12 hours.
